H2Conserve is an educational instrument which as an independent water source teaches children about water conservation through different mediums of water flow and constraints. By limiting the source of water for play, as the water levels recede, the dynamics of the instrument change causing children to become more aware of the decreasing water levels, encouraging them to conserve water as to prolong the water play.

As water levels recede, certain components become redundant making children more conscious of how much water they are using.

The Problem

wasting water.jpg

Water Play is an integral part of a young child’s physical and cognitive development. Their affinity towards water is driven by waters ability to adapt to their needs rather than vice versa; it helps foster natural and intuitive methods of exploration and learning. However when playing with water, copious amounts are wasted during water play sessions without children realising how much water is wasted in the process.

A lot of water is wasted due to the open source water table that is present. Children will often go and gather water for their intended use without thinking about where the water is coming from. Due to the easy nature of obtaining the water and false sense of infinite amounts of water, the children are not aware of the value that water holds.

The Target Market

Aimed at Kindergarten (4 - 5 years old) children it was important to understand their needs, what is currently available in the market, and the basis of education for children that young.
